I started “The Garage” with a dream to establish a space on the west side of Madison for the community to tinker socially.
My goal is to build community around the hobbies we all do in our basements and garages, plus provide space for those in the community that don’t have access to a garage. The Garage will be a family-friendly learning environment with tools and resources to explore a new hobby, dive deeper into an existing interest, or sell your own wares in our store. Every journey has a starting point, and our path to opening this tinker space begins with inspiring young minds through a STEAM-focused summer camp!
I have a 3 and 6 year old who are naturally curious about this world they were born into. It’s like their minds are constantly racing to make sense of how ducks float, when do baby whales learn to swim, why do I keep telling them not to drink pond water, and where does all our food come from. Every day brings so many questions from them that it’s hard to find time to walk them through each one. That’s why the first main focus of The Garage will be to establish a summer camp. My vision for a summer camp is to help them learn how to explore the big questions they ask. By building the skills and knowledge for independent learning, I hope to instill the confidence and self-actualization necessary for a life filled of tinkering.
